Vehicle Health Care Tips - Lockdown

Letting a car sit idle while under lockdown, or any other time, can lead to potential issues and hefty repair bills. You can keep your vehicle in good health by following a few key steps:

PAINT & INTERIOR CARE

  • Wash the exterior and clean the interior before parking the vehicle (don’t leave any junk or leftovers inside)
  • Keep AC in recirculation mode and all windows/ glass completely closed.
  • Ensure vehicle is parked in shade or use a body cover to safeguard the exterior paintwork

Benefits: Prevents dust, bird droppings & dust contamination on your vehicle & protects & removes moisture and odors

FIRE CARE

  • Remove all flammable materials from inside your vehicle (cigar lighters, power banks etc)

Benefit: Protects your vehicle from fire

ENGINE & AC CARE

  • Before starting the engine look under and around the engine bay to make sure no small animals or rodents have made their home under your vehicle or in the engine bay
  • Start the engine for at least 5 minutes once a week to stabilize all moving parts
  • Move the vehicle at least 5 meters forwards or backwards once a week in order to lubricate the transmission and any moving parts
  • Don’t start the AC immediately. First open the window, run the blower for a minimum one minute then start the AC. Do this once a week
  • For Hybrid vehicles, start your vehicle & keep idling for 15 minutes once a week

Benefits: To keep lithium batteries in a good condition, lubrication & prevention from rodent entry

PARKING BRAKE CARE

  • Put a safe block in front of tyres to avoid any rolling movement of vehicle
  • Once in a week release the parking brake and move the car forwards or backwards in the parked area

Benefit: This will help reduce surface rust on brake discs

TYRE CARE

  • Before parking make sure you check tyres are inflated properly
  • Move the car forward and backwards to avoid flat spots.

Benefit: Prevents flat spots

BATTERY CARE

  • Ensure all the lights are turned off (headlamps & interior lamp)
  • Start your car every day and keep engine ON for at least 5 minutes
  • In case of battery discharge refer to your vehicle owner’s manual how to safely jumpstart your vehicle

KEEP YOUR FUEL TANK FILLED

  • Fill the gas tank to reduce condensation

CHECK THE COMBINATION METER FOR ANY WARNING LIGHTS

  • Keep an eye out for any warning lights. If they continuously appear after the engine starts, Please refer to your vehicle manual.

WIPER CARE

  • Lift the wiper arms upwards when your vehicle is parked

Benefit: Prevents deterioration of wiper blades

DOOR & WINDOWS

  • Move your power windows up and down every couple of days

Benefit: Lubricates moving parts
